U.S. Payments Forum launches new educational resource on contactless payments acceptance
PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., February 26, 2019 – More than 50 percent of today’s transactions are taking place at contactless payment-enabled merchants¹, and that number is growing. With more merchants showing interest in enabling consumers to tap to make a payment, the U.S. Payments Forum has launched a new website, www.getcontactless.com, to help them get started.
The U.S. Payments Forum is the only industry body representing all segments of the payments industry and is focused on supporting the introduction and implementation of new and emerging payments technologies in the U.S. This website is part of the Forum’s ongoing efforts to provide timely and easy-to-use educational resources for the industry at large.
“The U.S. is starting to wake up to contactless payments, which provide the same robust security as contact chip cards with added convenience,” said Randy Vanderhoof, director of the U.S. Payments Forum. “We’re seeing a ramp-up in issuance of contactless cards, and steady upticks in contactless and mobile wallet transaction volumes. As this market continues to grow, merchants will find that this website is an excellent resource for those considering or currently in the process of implementing contactless payments.”
www.getcontactless.com answers the most important questions merchants have about contactless payments, including: what are contactless payments? Why offer contactless payments? Are contactless payments as secure as contact chip card payments? Merchants can also find additional resources such as signage best practices on the website.
The development of this website was led by the Forum’s Communication and Education Working Committee. The committee works to deliver communications best practices and educational resources for key payments industry stakeholders that promote an efficient, timely and effective migration to EMV-enabled cards, devices and terminals and emerging payments technologies in the U.S.
Additional resources on contactless and other new and emerging technologies are available through the U.S. Payments Forum at www.uspaymentsforum.org and @USPaymentsForum.
